A sad day

By now, I think everybody has heard about the school shootings in Connecticut.  Though I know any words I can put down here are just meaningless letters, Please let me say I am truly and deeply saddened by what has happened and I cannot imagine the pain those parents must be feeling. I am truly sorry for your losses.
In the days and weeks to come, we are going to hear from a lot of talking heads on both sides of the gun control issue. It's unfortunate that so many will try to politicize this...now is really not the time. I have mine own thoughts about it, but I am going to keep them to myself for now.

Does anyone know what this is???

Bet you don't. You've seen it's more famous cousin before many times, but I seriously doubt you've ever seen this one. This is the Bisexual pride flag. A lot of people out there have no idea what bisexuality actually is, so in my quest to destroy stereotypes and ignorance worldwide I thought I'd tackle this one next.

football/Fußball/fútbol/soccer

Ok, my brain works in random ways. I actually started to blog about the Euro 2012 tournament. (Spain won BTW. Since Team USA wasn't in the tournament for obvious reasons, I was supporting Germany but Die Mannschaft went out in the semis). But then I thought that since this was a Euro tourney I should use the term "football" because all of the countries involved do. Then I got to thinking about the word "soccer" and that was when I went off the rails....

white privilege

One of the things we were promised in the 08 elections was the first "post racial" president, and an "honest dialogue" about race. So far we haven't gotten it. So here's my go at it.

It's very hard for a white man such as myself to talk about race. Certain members of our society are all to ready to scream "racism" the instant we do anything other than abase ourselves and apologize profusely for for all of the crimes, real and imagined, our race has perpetrated on.....well, everybody.

southwest fail... again

Yet again, Southwest airlines has decided to play morality police. On June 5th a young woman got on a 6 am flight from Vegas to NYC wearing this

father's day

So, it's father's day in the US again. The cliche about getting a bad tie for father's day is as old as father's day itself
Neckties
In fact you'll find myriad web pages and blogs devoted to "bad" father's day gifts (mostly satirical), and every time we have turned on the TV over the last few months every retailer from radio shack to home depot has tried to convince us that we could find the PERFECT gift on their shelves.

Now, I rarely blog about my kids. In fact I never do... the reason for this is I'm one of the few parents out there that understands that the vast majority of the 6 billion people on the planet absolutely don't give a shit about my progeny. Today I make an exception.

This is what I got for father's day. It's not a tie, or a tool, or the latest gadget, but I think it's pretty much the "perfect" gift.

Happy father's day to all the current and future dads out there
